Herman de Jong's voice was reduced to a whisper a couple of weeks already before he died. So when, during that time, one of the many cassette tapes that he recorded for his children and grandchildren (mostly of stories and organ playing) burst forth in my study with the exceptionally 'helder' voice of dad in his prime, singing such a deeply simple confession, I was moved to tears, again and again each time I heard it. It seemed only fitting that this voice of faith be allowed to ring out again during his memorial service.
